This depiction of the Lord’s Prayer written in Arabic calligraphy reminds us of the prayer’s significance for Christians across time and around the world. (Hear the Arabic words here.)
The central characters of the calligraphy translate to “Our Father.”
The top line reads from right to left (starting at the 3:00 position, moving toward 9:00): “who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done.” Notice the centered dots in the calligraphy that break up the four phrases.
The first of the bottom semicircular lines continues with “on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as.”
Finally, the last line completes the prayer: “we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom the power and glory now and forever. Amen.”
