Leave behind your cracked, tepid, scummy cisterns and return to the Fountain of Living Water

August 31, 2025 | Preparing for Worship

Returning to the Source

In this week’s lectionary scriptures, God calls us back from wandering, to abandon cracked cisterns and return to the fountain of living water (Jeremiah 2:4-13). Psalm 81:1, 10-16 affirms God’s desire to satisfy us completely. Hebrews 13:1-8 urges mutual love, hospitality, contentment, and praise. In Luke 14:1, 7-14, Jesus teaches humility, inviting us to take the lowly place so that we might be honored in divine humility.

Where in your life are you choosing lesser things over God’s abundant provision? How might humility open the way for grace?
