Today, February 4th is World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is a moment when people across the globe pause to remember, to grieve, and to stand in solidarity with all who have been touched by cancer. It is a day that holds both sorrow and hope, remembering those we have lost, supporting those who continue to fight, and lifting up the families who walk alongside them. With hearts open to God’s presence and compassion, we now offer this prayer.
Lord God in heaven we lift to you this prayer on behalf of all those who have suffered as a result of cancer. We lift them up to you God and ask that you do a great and mighty work in their lives. Lord may you sustain us in those times when with the psalmist we cry out, “How long, oh Go?” We pray for those who have lost loved ones to cancer and the unimaginable toll that cancer has taken on their lives. We pray also for those who are currently battling cancer, that you would be with them and their loved ones, giving them comfort in times of stress, joy in times of grief, and peace that both surpasses and defies all understanding. We thank you for the love and courage of their family members, Lord, and we ask that this prayer be one more way in which you extend your love to all those who are suffering. Amen.
