Wind Down with Wonder
The end of the day offers a special opportunity for calm reflection and connection. As your kids settle down, their hearts may still carry the weight of the day: school, friendships, questions, and worries.
Bedtime is a tender moment for reminding them that they are safe, loved, and never alone. When we end our days with prayer and presence, we invite God to watch over all we leave unfinished.
Bedtime Blessing Practices to Try
- Blessing Ritual: Before turning off the lights, say a short blessing over your child. Example: “You are God’s beloved. May you sleep in peace and rise in joy.” Let older kids speak blessings over others, too.
- Prayer Light or Candle: Light a small candle or use a battery-powered tealight to represent God’s presence. Sit quietly for 30 seconds, then say a one-line prayer or gratitude to God before blowing it out.
- God Moments Journal: Keep a little notebook by the bed where you write or draw one time you noticed God that day. Over time, it becomes a keepsake of faith and reflection.
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
—Psalm 4:8 (NIV)
This Faith at Home series is for families looking to add some spiritual formation practices to a busy schedule, especially at the start of a new school year.
